About Alison PDF Print E-mail

Responsible for bringing the fun back to flower arranging, Alison Bradley is a much loved international demonstrator, teacher and television presenter of contemporary floral design.

Alison's demonstrations introduce her audiences to the endless possibilities in floral design and her students have gone on to great success whether it's in decorating their homes, going into business or just to refresh their ideas.

Alison joined NAFAS (National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies) 30 years ago. She sat and passed her Area Demonstrators test and then the ultimate test in 1996 when she became one of the few demonstrators in the United Kingdom to achieve National Demonstrator status. During this period she worked with a number of overseas floral designers and she decided to develop her own style and was convinced by her friends to begin teaching contemporary arranging. European influenced living rustic garden table

She is self-taught and her style of presentation is very upbeat, humorous and theatrical. It has become accepted that she can reach a younger audience and bring them into the organization through her unique humour and designs on stage whilst still inspiring established members.

Alison formed Saltus (new contemporary group) in 1996. Saltus was formed to support new contemporary arrangers and to encourage more experienced designers to try new concepts and put them on the show bench. The group, which now has an international membership, has been very successful and has won several prestigious awards.  Their latest award was a First at the NAFAS National competitions in Telford in June 2006.  Alison was the only Saltus member who could attend the show - so she drew the short straw and had to come up with a design idea very quickly!

Alison has demonstrated all over the United Kingdom from as far north as Orkney to as far south as Cornwall. In one year she gave an amazing 132 demonstrations to audiences of up to 1,000 people. She has also tutored and demonstrated in Europe, South Africa, New Zealand and the USA. Alison was the only floral design demonstrator booked at the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society shows in Scotland.

She is best known by people in Scotland and now throughout the UK for her regular appearances as the resident flower arranger on BBC's Beechgrove Garden and for her features on BBC Radio 4 and Radio Scotland. Alison has even arranged flowers on the radio!

She writes for several magazines and in July 2001 she became the editor and publisher of Fusion Flowers magazine, a publication aimed at inspiring beginners through to masters in contemporary floral design. Fusion Flowers magazine is now distributed to over 60 countries and in 2005 won the prestigious award of 'Best Magazine' by a small publishing company at the PPA (Periodical Publishers Association) awards ceremony in Edinburgh together with runner up to 'Best Magazine' and 'Best Online Presence' awards which was a huge achievement by such a new company. In June 2006 the Fusion Flowers team launched their latest publication Fusion Flowers - Weddings. For more information about Fusion Flowers magazine and its sales areas go to www.fusionflowers.com

Alison still finds time to accept special commissions and was the designer of the 1998 Scottish wedding of the year for Lord and Lady Mansfield at Scone Palace. She was appointed overall designer and co-coordinator for the choir area at Canterbury Cathedral for its special celebration in 1997 when she managed over 40 designers.

She is married to Denis and lives, teaches and works from the village of Kippen, which overlooks the Trossachs of Scotland. Please refer to Alison's Contact page for further information.
